<작가노트>
작품의 주제는 우리에게 친숙한 카드!!
카드를 가지고 나는 나의 내면의 소리를 끌어내 캔버스에 옮겨 담았다.
단순한 문양이지만 카드 ‘포커’에는 적어도 하나씩의 의미만큼은 있다. 예를 들면 ‘하트’는 성직자들을 뜻하고 ‘스페이드’는 군인의 검, ‘다이아’는 상인들, ‘클럽(클로버)’은 농민들이 사용하던 곤봉을 의미한다.
그중에서도 생김새부터 판이하게 다른 조커는 모든 신분제도를 넘나드는 특별한, 다재다능한 존재를 의미한다고 한다. 여느 시대에서도 그러했겠지만 현시를 봤을 때, 정권과 도덕적인, 자연 친화 적인 것이 서로 팽팽한 끈을 놓지 않는 것, 이런 단편적인 예를 떠나 그 어느 것이 옳다고 말할 수 없는 수많은 난처한 일들..... 사소한 일상 속에서도 우리 모두는 어쩔 수 없는 선택의 기로에서 현실을 살아가고 있다.
사실 작품의 소재를 선택하는 과정에 있어서 하나하나 의미를 담고 처음부터 시작한 것은 아니었다.
소재에 대한 여러 가지 마인드 맵핑 과정에서 사람들이 그저 다람쥐가 체바퀴를 돌리듯 성공을 위해 제각기 나름대로의 인생을 열심히 살아가고 있지만, 끝없는 굴레에 대해 두려워하는 우리 모두의 세상살이를 이 작은 카드뭉치 속에 접목시켜보고 싶은 생각에 빠져들게 되었고, 작품을 하나씩 완성해 가면서 그 의미들이 한걸음씩 내게 더 간절함으로 다가왔다.
사람들은 ‘카드’라 하면 연상 되는 것이 단순히 부정적 투기적 놀이문화로만 여길 수도 있겠으나, 나는 내 작품 ‘카드’를 감상하는 모든 이들이 카드 자체를 바라보는 시각 보다 작품에 담은 세상사의 시련과 고뇌 그리고 욕망, 그것에 대한 두려움, 품으려 노력하는 희망까지도 볼 수 있었으면 하는 바람으로 작은 캔버스에 내 청춘의 붓을 옮긴다.
사람들은 누구나 성공하길 원하고 평화롭게 살길 원한다.
성공!! 이 단어는 꿈, 도전, 열정을 통해서만이 이루어질 수 있는 단어이다.
우리 모두가 정상에 오르려 정말 열심히 노력하지만 성공할 수 없는 이유는 마지막의 ‘조금’을 남겨놓고 포기하기 때문이 아닐까?
세상은 ‘실력’이라는 무기만 가지고 내가 원하는 삶의 목표, 성공의 결과를 기대하기는 어렵다. 열정을 갖고 도전 하려고 할 때 이미 성공의 문턱에 와 있는 것이다. 실력과 노력을 겸비한 사회적인 대응, 곧 나에게 어떤 히든카드가 있고, 흔해빠진 카드도 나만의 골든 카드로 변화시킬 수 있는 상대를 사로잡는 ‘능력’!! 바로 그것이 꼭 필요하다.
직사각 작은 캔버스라는 공간에 고정된 기호적 패턴은 예술의 광범위함을 억누르고 나의 꿈을 표현하기에는 너무나 부족함을 느낀다.
나를 빛나게 해 줄 수 있는 것! 나를 성공의 문턱에 다가설 수 있도록 해주는 한 장의 카드!!
지금 이 순간... 나를 지켜보고 있지만 우둔한 나는 그것을 보지 못하고 있지는 않은가...?

Yes! The card that we all know is the theme of this exhibition.
I have tried to transfer my inner voice into the canvas using the cards.
Although they look like nothing special, each pictures of the cards carry at least one significant meaning. For example, the hearts stands for the clergymen, the spades for the swords of the soldiers, the diamonds for the merchants, and the clubs for the clubs used by the farmers. Especially, the unique looking card, joker, signifies someone who is multi-talented regardless of his/her social standing. It may have been true in any period, however, particularly in current society, we are living our daily lives in which we have to make constant decisions that are beyond our control, experience incidences that there are no right or wrong answers, and cope with the world where politics, things that are moral, and things that are environment-friendly fight tightly against each other.

In the process of selecting a subject for this exhibit, I did not give specific meaning to each pictures of the suits from the beginning. However, while brainstorming the idea, I felt the strong desire to graft our lives, the lives of people who, on their own way, strive for success enthusiastically, but fear the uncertainty of the future, into this small deck of cards. And as I was finishing each painting one at a time, its meaning came to me as stronger yearning little by little.
When people think of the cards, they are probably just reminded of the games that they enjoy. However, I wish that everyone who sees my work, “The Cards”, to be able to see the agony and trials of life, ambition, fear for that ambition, and even the effort to embrace the fear rather than just looking at the card itself.
Everyone wants to succeed and live peaceful life.
Success! This word is the word that can only be fulfilled through dream, challenge, and passion.
The reason that we can not succeed in spite of the fact that we all work diligently to climb up to the top is because we seem to give up right before the end leaving that “little” at the top.

In this world, it is hard to expect the result of success and the goal in life that one wants only with the weapon called “competence”. One can come closer to the threshold of success when challenging himself/herself with passion. The social correspondence combined with the talent and effort ; knowing what kind of hidden card you have and the ability to change the common card into your own golden card, is definitely needed.
I truly feel that small rectangular shaped canvas and the limited number of symbolized patterns are insufficient to suppress the extensiveness of the art and express my dream.
Something that will make me shine!
